K-8 Soccer Themes

Our Schedule & Pricing page lists a different theme for each week. Every week of camp includes some consistency with a mix of drills, games, and scrimmaging; however, to enhance player development, we tailor the focus area of each of the weeks.

“Multiple” Themes: Our traditional camp

During our multiple theme week (our traditional camp), we have a different theme each day. The themes include.

  1. Dribbling: This includes a focus on dribbling to maintain possession and go 1 v 1.
  2. Passing: Focusing on techniques to set up passes, use proper technique, and receive under pressure.
  3. Shooting: Including how to open windows, use proper technique, and select the correct shot type.
  4. Attacking/Defending: Including how to defend 1 v 1 and in groups, and attack with multiple players.
  5. World Cup Day (Friday): Including a mix of games and competitions to apply skills from the rest of the week.

Finishing

Our finishing week includes a large focus on scoring the soccer ball. Focus areas include:

  1. Ball striking: Using proper technique to shoot.
  2. Finding a window: Moves and touches to create a window (path) to shoot on goal.
  3. Building opportunities: Working in small groups to create and recognize the best opportunity to score.
  4. Applying the focus area in small-sided and large sided games under pressure.

Possession

Our possession week focuses on the most important skill in soccer — how to keep the ball — both individually and as a team. Focus areas include:

  1. Scan and plan: Ensuring we have a 360 degree map of what is around us and thinking about options to attack and keep the ball.
  2. Communication and runs: Getting open and effectively communicating that to teammates.
  3. Creating space off the dribble: Moves, shielding, and other ways to use individual skills to keep the ball under pressure.
  4. Creating space while receiving the ball: Working on our first touch effectiveness and thinking about the direction to take our first touch.

Ball Control

Our ball control week is to help develop mastery in improving first touch while receiving ball and off the dribble. The goal of this week is to help improve possession skills and the ability to go 1 v 1. Focus areas include:

  1. Creating space off the dribble: Moves, shielding, and other ways to use individual skills to keep the ball under pressure.
  2. Creating space while receiving the ball both in the air and on the ground: Working on our first touch effectiveness and thinking about the direction to take our first touch.
  3. Taking touches at speed: technique to keep the ball close as we approach a sprint.
  4. Taking touches in tight areas: Using all parts of our feet to move the ball while keeping it close.
